It all started when…
After seeing one of my best friends perform in a school assembly on the drum kit and being absolutely blown away by the sound the instrument made, I quickly found out who his tutor was (Danny Pearson) and started having lessons. Since then, after going on to reach the finals of the Young Drummer of The Year competition two years in a row, and then completing Grade 8 with distinction after just 4 years of playing, I began giving lessons myself. At first my lessons were an informal side project, but after realising my passion for it, I wanted to teach full time.
Experience / Qualifications:
I have been teaching the drums for around 10 years, and in that time I’ve taught a wide range of students; a mix of ages from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and ability levels. I have a full DBS check as well as experience teaching SEN students.
I spent two months teaching music at a summer camp in Pennsylvania USA in 2016, with students aged 7-15 years. We, as the ‘Rockshop’ staff, provided group tuition and formed the students into bands to later host concerts to the rest of the camp. This really helped me develop mentor-like skills, as not only did we instruct the students on the technicalities of their instruments, but also on how to be great performers and band members.
I’ve also taught in schools and using Zoom / Teams to provide online tuition during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2025, I graduated with a First Class Honours in my BA Music with the Open University. This was a four-year degree that developed my skills as a musician in a broader sense than solely drumming. The course culminated in a residential week at Trinity Laban Conservatoire (Greenwich, London), which was nothing short of transformational. Receiving expert guidance and tuition from the most inspiring and accomplished educators had a significant, lasting impact on my musicianship, and it has been my aim since to impart this into my teaching practice.
Completing my degree didn't mark the end of all education for me, since then having taken lessons with other esteemed drummers like Dave Elitch, Jamie Houghton, and Gianluca Pellerito.
